PROTECTING COMMUNITIES

With all the atrocities and unlawful actions committed by ICE toward citizens and immigrants, documented or otherwise, everyone needs to have a local government that is willing to stand up and fight for our community. District 91 is currently surrounded by detention centers where people are being snatched up and disappeared to. Citizens should not have to worry that their children will be abducted off the street by masked thugs because ICE agents need to meet a quote. People in our town and surrounding areas should not have to live in fear because of their background, culture, or color. As a Hispanic, I am acutely aware of how dangerous these times are not just for people of color, but everyone. If elected, I will demand our fourth amendment rights be respected. If ICE members commit a crime, they should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law without exception, and I will work with local law enforcement and the community to enact other policies for public safety.

TRANSPORTATION

Gettysburg is one of the most HISTORICALLY significant places in the United States. As a resident, it’s apparent that our infrastructure is woefully inadequate to handle the tourism which brings in over 1.5 million visitors each year to view our military parks, museums, Gettysburg and surrounding towns.

The serious lack of parking affects both residents and visitors, and creates a hazard for pedestrians and drivers. As Gettysburg is mostly a walking town, it’s vital that modes of transportation go beyond just cars. If elected, my goal is to connect our beautiful state together with a comprehensive transportation system, improving safety and reducing unnecessary traffic. By focusing on historical means of transportation, such as trains, as well as busses, cabs, and bicycles, we can restore our proud tradition of being the epicenter of transportation once again.

There is not a single regular bus or train route that connects Philadelphia to Harrisburg to Gettysburg to Pittsburg. If elected, I would want to build transportation hubs that bridge all of Pennsylvania together again.

EDUCATION

Six years ago, the PA Supreme Court ruled that it was unconstitutional for property tax be the only way that we fund public schooling. Since then, nothing has been done to relieve out aging home-owners from this financial burden that has been declared unlawful. While this is a difficult problem to navigate, it’s an important issue that needs to be resolved to ensure that our children receive high quality education that doesn’t favor rich areas and ignore rural communities. Equity in our education the highest priority for our future. If elected, I will work tirelessly to come up with a new system to pay for our public schools that is constitutional.

HEALTHCARE

Healthcare in the United States has NEVER been as good as it could be. Even worse, insurance companies are never held accountable for making decisions that affect hard working citizens despite their costly co-pays, deductibles and premiums. Long term, I’d like to overhaul healthcare so that everyone has high quality healthcare that improves patient outcomes without the worry of lifetime debt hanging over their heads. In the short term, I would like to hold insurance companies accountable for ripping off citizens and putting their lives at risk simply for profit.
